El verano 2027 arrives with gold, generous tailoring and a taste for sheer dressing

Paris collections point to a season in which metallic tones, oversized blazers, smallStatement tops and revealing fabrics take center stage, with silhouettes carrying more importance than price.

El verano 2027 arrives with gold, generous tailoring and a taste for sheer dressing

When I arrived at the collections, the first impression was that the new summer wardrobe will not be built around a single isolated garment, but around a clear visual idea: brightness, structure and a certain deliberate display. Across more than 70 brands presenting in Paris, gold, pastel shades, sheer fabrics and large bags emerged as recurring signals, while Chanel, Dior, Valentino and Saint Laurent helped define the tone.

Gold becomes the season's defining color

The most striking proposal came from Saint Laurent, where Anthony Vaccarello closed his show with more than 80 outfits entirely covered in gold beneath an enormous golden spider, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. It was also the director's final show after ten years leading the house. The scene makes it difficult to read gold as merely an accessory color: in this case, it functioned as the central language of the collection.

Dior offered another version of luminosity. Under Jonathan Anderson, now creative director across all of the house's lines, the collection featured metallic garments with fluid silhouettes. At the front row, Anya Taylor-Joy wore a black lace cape, showing that the shine can coexist with darker, more delicate pieces. The proposal is not limited to a gold top; it also moves through surface, texture and movement.

The oversized blazer, meanwhile, reinforces tailoring's return. It appeared in nearly every collection as a structuring piece, worn with cropped tops, tank tops, short blouses and straight trousers. Nicole Kidman wore a Chanel model in the front row, where the house's new creative direction under Mathew Blazy favored clean lines and silhouettes that update the classic. The message is practical: volume does not necessarily mean abandoning order.

Statement pieces and sheer fabrics

Valentino presented its collection Antibiblioteca in a bookstore near the Sorbonne. Alessandro Michele, the former creative director of Gucci, explored giant bows, embroidery and feathers as part of the Italian house's vocabulary of glamour. These details may seem more theatrical than everyday, yet the underlying lesson is useful: an outfit can be memorable because of its silhouette and its emphasis, even when its price is not extravagant.

Prints also return with force. Polka dots and flowers appeared especially in smallStatement pieces, almost like corset tops, intended to be worn over the skin and paired with straight trousers or short balloon-shaped skirts. At the same time, the naked trend, associated with transparency and fabrics that reveal more than they cover, continues to establish itself as a seasonal classic.

  • An oversized blazer in linen or lightweight gabardine, worn over a cropped top, tank top or short blouse.
  • Straight trousers or short skirts with a pronounced balloon silhouette.
  • A metallic or gold top that works as the outfit's focal point.
  • A small piece with floral or polka-dot print, either over the skin or combined with a sheer layer.
  • Large bags, one of the accessories that stood out across the Paris collections.

For anyone renewing a summer wardrobe, the material provides a fairly direct formula: a generous blazer, one luminous piece and a print or a transparent garment are enough to assemble looks aligned with what is coming. Expensive pieces are not required; the silhouette is what matters. The Paris runway therefore points to a summer 2027 that is colorful, structured and expressive, but still leaves room for personal interpretation rather than demanding a complete wardrobe change all at once.
